Festival Philosophy

At the Taiko Spirit Festival, we immerse ourselves in the natural world as much as possible in an open-air setting. Our goal is to spend a weekend in harmony with nature and we strive to leave as small of an ecological footprint behind as possible. With that in mind, we are taking the following initiatives towards better environmental stewardship starting with the 5R’s of environmental impact – Refuse, Reuse, Repurpose, Recycle, and Rot.

Sourcing materials

The majority of materials used to build and decorate our festival are either recycled, repurposed, reused or borrowed.
When items need to be purchased, we start with second-hand stores, giving new life to old items.
If we need to purchase something brand new, we will be using it again at future taiko events.

Lowering our impact

We strive to reduce or eliminate one-time use plastics – choosing paper, bamboo, washable or sustainable serving options instead.
Food and drinks for our camp kitchen and bar are locally sourced.
When given a choice, we choose ecological and non-toxic cleaning products.

Community

At Taiko Spirit we want to create a place where everyone feels comfortable and respected. We are all responsible for our own well-being and the well-being of others. We do not tolerate discrimination, violence or abusive behavior in any way. Everyone is welcome at Taiko Spirit! We are looking forward to a great time togehter.
