Festival Programme 2023

We are very pleased to present our multifaceted workshop programme for 2023! In this year’s workshops you participate in workshops to: learn the piece Buchi Awase, try Korean drum dancing (janggo), katsugi okedo, get an impression of Nakayamadaiko, play shinobue, learn how to repair taiko, take your kids to the kid’s workshop, and more! Under Festival programme you will find all workshops and their descriptions as well as teacher biographies.

The workshops will take place from Thursday 3 August to Saturday 5 August 2023. On Saturday evening the Taiko Festival culminates with our Matsuri evening and on Sunday we will have breakfast and do the clean up together. 😉

Like last year you can buy 1-day, 2-day or 3-day passes. Workshops and accommodation are included in the ticket price. In addition, this year there is a special “Matsuri” ticket. With this you can take part in the beginners’ taiko workshop, dinner and the Matsuri on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. Tickets for children up to the age of 15 years are free. In commitment to the non-profit concept of the festival and supported by a lot of volunteer work, we can offer you very fair prices:

1-day pass: 75 CHF

2-day pass: 140 CHF

3-day pass: 200 CHF

Matsuri: 45 CHF (valid on Saturday from 2 p.m.)

From 1 July till 14 July, 2023 you can register and buy your ticket. After registering you can indicate your workshop preferences and then you will then receive your personal festival programme. Since the number of spots in the workshops and the beds in the guesthouse are limited, early registration is recommended!

We look forward to seeing you in August at the Bläsimühle in Madetswil!

We’re back at it!

Dear taiko friends,

After a long hiatus, we are back in action since last August in our new festival location at Bläsimühle in Madetswil. Though, large uncertainties and restrictions during a pandemic required us to take a different approach. The 2022 edition of Taiko Spirit was held as a retreat in which a limited number of guests could immerse themselves in single and multi-day workshops culminating with a matsuri evening celebration full of dancing, jamming, food and fun.

Since last summer, we have received very positive feedback about the new concept, and have decided to maintain the intimate and cosy nature going forward. We’re so stoked about it that we’ve already decided to organise it again next summer! So please save the dates 3-6 August 2023 in your calendars!

We’ll keep you updated here with all the details as they come.

Wishing you all a great start to the new year,

Your TS committee

2020 Festival Cancelled

Dear taiko friends,

I hope this message finds you and your loved ones well.

Last week, the Swiss government gave an early update regarding the COVID-19 mitigation measures. Unfortunately, they were unable to announce a timeline to lift restrictions for events such as ours. In addition, travel between Switzerland and other countries remains difficult and unpredictable.

We appreciate that many of you have been looking forward to the festival as a ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ of this pandemic. That’s why it’s with a very heavy heart that we have decided to cancel Taiko Spirit 2020. In these difficult days, I hope you find some solace and inspiration in the touching acts of solidarity as well as the rebound of nature in our absence throughout the world.

Though our contributors and festival location have never been more exciting, I’m certain we can build on this year’s work to make the next Taiko Spirit in August 2022 the very best yet! Until then, on behalf of the Taiko Spirit team, I wish you good health, patience and healing.

Take care
Micah Wilhelm
Taiko Spirit Festival Director

Coronavirus Outlook

Dear Taikofriends,

As most of you probably know by now, Switzerland has not been spared from the coronavirus pandemic.

Just this afternoon, our government has issued a series of new, further restrictions on public life, including banning any event and closing stores and schools nationwide. The situation around COVID-19 remains highly dynamic and somewhat unpredictable, as is the nature of dealing with a new virus and it is therefore not possible yet to make predictions as to what the situation will be in August this year, and whether Taiko Spirit can take place as planned.

At the moment, we ask of you to be patient while we evaluate the situation and come to a decision. The current restrictions on events will be held in place until May at least, and that is when we will have a definitive answer for you.

Please also consider the travel restrictions that have been put in place for travellers from some countries. These are set up for 6 months now, which would affect Taiko Spirit, but we hope that the situation will improve before then.

For now, please stay healthy and be compassionate with your fellow humans! Let’s turn this into an opportunity for solidarity and community building (beyond handshakes! 🙂)

Take care!
Micah Wilhelm
